Nestled on an irregularly shaped site along the Heathcote River, Weir Place is a celebration of thoughtful architecture, creative space optimization, and harmonious connection to the natural landscape. With its striking light blue cladding, this home not only contrasts beautifully against the lush riverside foliage—it also reflects the personality of the clients who helped shape it from the ground up.

From the outset in October 2022, the brief was clear: a single-storey, three-bedroom home with an open-plan kitchen/living/dining area, a separate lounge for added comfort, and a double garage. One element that was never up for negotiation? A generous outdoor living space to enjoy the sun and scenery all year round.

But this project wasn’t without its challenges. The property sits within a floodplain, requiring the floor level to be raised approximately 1.3 metres above ground. This constraint quickly became an opportunity—to lift the home and open up even better views across the river valley. The design journey was a true collaboration, involving a few rounds of careful iteration to fully unlock the site’s potential. The result is a 224m² home that fits the site like a glove, making the most of every angle and elevation.

By our winter check-in in May 2023, it was already clear this house belonged right where it was. As the seasons changed and warmer weather rolled in, we were thrilled to return and see just how perfectly it nestled into the landscape—offering breathtaking views of the Heathcote River and the treeline beyond.

Outdoor Living Done Right

At the heart of Weir Place is a large, sun-soaked deck overlooking the river. It’s the perfect place to relax, watch local birdlife, and enjoy the serenity of riverside living. A dedicated play area with low-maintenance artificial lawn makes it practical for a growing family, while the addition of a spa pool brings a touch of luxury to the everyday.

Interior Flow with Purpose

Step inside and you’ll find a home designed for both ease and elegance. The kitchen seamlessly connects to a dedicated dining space, which then opens up into the main lounge—creating a welcoming, open-plan flow that’s perfect for entertaining or unwinding.

One of our favourite features? The recessed ceiling in the lounge. With subtle lighting tucked into the design, it brings warmth, depth, and a hint of understated sophistication to the space.

And in the kitchen, a single skylight makes a world of difference—filling the room with soft natural light and transforming it into a bright, inviting hub of the home. It’s proof that small design details can have a big impact.

A Home with Heart

Each bedroom has its own distinct feel, but it’s the master that truly connects with the outdoors. Earthy tones inside echo the timber tones of the decking just beyond the doors, creating a sense of flow and calm. It’s a peaceful retreat, made even more special by its garden outlook.

The spare and children’s rooms are just as cosy and welcoming—filled with personal touches that turn this house into a home.

From concept to completion, Weir Place has been about more than just ticking boxes. It’s about blending form and function, design and detail, nature and nurture. It’s a home that reflects the lifestyle—and the dreams—of the family who live there.
